Rack cassette construction Saia® PCD3 device series
Continuity, originality and individual profile for over 25 years
Conventional PLC construction
Since the beginning of Saia® control engineering, more than 30 years ago, Saia® product series have also been available in conventional PLC construction. Based on several product generations with a conventional PLC construction, the new PCD3 product series introduced many new technologies and achieved significant improvements in performance, function, size and cost.
Performance of the PCD3 series
The highly modular hardware and firmware of the PCD3 series enables it to cover a range of functions and performance, for which others need many different series of devices. Achieving this demanded many innovations. For example, in contrast to the usual construction paradigms, the PCD3 series CPU is not plugged in as a module, but built into the back wall. For the plug-in interface modules, two different system buses have been integrated in parallel. One system bus is provided for the use of simple input/output modules. Via the second system bus, intelligent modules can be operated, such as fast counter modules, stepper motor control modules, specific interface modules, or SD flash memory modules.
Saia® PCD3 series
The PCD3 I/O interface line includes over 45 different plug-in modules. Alongside the usual analogue and digital modules, various special modules are also available, for example: manual control modules.

Automation Server on board:
Thanks to integral web/IT functions, it is easy to integrate PCD3 systems into automation environments without using proprietary drivers. The base units of all PCD3 CPUs have built-in Ethernet interface, web server, FTP server, file system, flash memory modules, e-mail service, SNMP, etc..
Saia® PCD3.M5xxx CPUs are communications/computing machines with numerous on-board functions, all of which are integrated within a very small, compact format. Profibus, Ethernet, RS485, RS232 and USB are integrated as on-board interfaces. Via the I/O slots, the system can be extended to 13 interfaces. A very wide variety of protocol stacks (e.g. Modbus, IEC60870-5,...) and services can be implemented as firmware modules or user programs. |

PCD3.Mxx6x Power CPUs complement the range in the highest performance class for PLC controllers. They provide PCD3-CPUs with sufficient system resources (fast Coldfire processor, 2MByte user program memory, 4GBytes flash memory with file system, ...) for sophisticated tasks. Simultaneous communication via Bacnet and Lon-IP can therefore run reliably. Ample memory resources allow states and data for all plant groups to be captured/monitored, archived and controlled within the Saia°PCD, even without PC technology and management system software.
Saia® PCD3.Mxxxx modular controllers can be expanded to 1024 local I/Os. The remote I/O systems PCD3.T66x and PCD3.T76x can be used for decentralized I/O extension via Ethernet and Profibus.
Smart RIO PCD3.T66x: PCD3.T66x Smart RIOs have unique extended functions that distinguish them from conventional systems not only in their functionality, but also in their programming, commissioning and service. Alongside the classical processing of remote I/Os, Smart RIOs also have PLC functionality and process user programs both remotely and autonomously. Critical tasks can therefore be looked after directly in the RIO and will even be executed if the manager (master) should fail. The management of RIO programs takes place centrally in the Smart Automation Manager. This offers advantages during commissioning and maintenance of systems. Moreover, Smart RIOs also have an integral web server available, which can be used for configuration, diagnosis and local web-HMI.
Over the next few years, priority will be given to expanding this interface line, providing dedicated interface combinations (HeaVAC, motion control, redundancy) and implementing enhancements in the construction/connection technology.
The Saia® PCD3.M5 CPU is an enormously strong communicating / computing machine with numerous on-board functions, all of which is combined in a very small, compact format. Profibus, Ethernet, RS485, RS232 and USB are integrated as on-board interfaces. The most diverse protocol stacks and services can be implemented as firmware modules or as user programs. In PLC speed, the Saia® PCD3.M reaches the same upper mid-class level as, for example, a Siemens® S7 318. As a modular controller, the PCD3.M can be expanded to include 1024 central I/Os.
The Saia® PCD3.T7xx line stands for remote I/O stations on standard Profibus and Ethernet-TCP/IP. The Saia® PCD3.T76x has two serial ports and a web server as standard, integrated in the head station.
