Profibus without Profibus chip = multiprotocol mode
We are the only supplier in the world to have implemented and integrated the Profibus protocol (field data link layer) as part of the operating system of an automation device (Saia® PCD).
This allows a large number of different protocols to operate in parallel across the same cable or the same connection.
Result for the customer
Cost reduction, despite higher automation functionality and full functional continuity in association with Ethernet TCP/IP networks.

Multi protocol mode
On a single physical network (cable) three different logic networks are provided and run simultaneously for different tasks.
The PCD2.M480 forms a logic network with the PCD3 remote I/Os, managing and running them with the Profi-S-IO protocol.
In a second logic network under the Profi-S-Bus protocol, PCD2.M480 and PCD3.M5440 controllers exchange data. This exchange is event-controlled and uses multi-master communication.
In a third logic network, the PCD3.M5540 controller, together with one or more external slaves, is assigned to an external Profibus-DP master. These devices communicate under the Profibus-DP protocol.
