With the SaiaPCD3 Wide Area Controller, Saia-Burgess has created a type of product which, in a uniform and consistent manner, covers the increased requirements of network automation at the field level, in built properties, across regions, and beyond national borders.
It is a freely programmable, industrial device for open and closed-loop control with PLC quality according to IEC 61131-2. It integrates all innovative web, IT and telecommunications functions for automation.
As with a classical RTU station (remote terminal unit) some I/Os are already present in the minimum system. These are: 10 digital inputs, 4 configurable analogue inputs and 2 relay outputs.
To guarantee reliable access to the automation station, one Ethernet LAN and one telecom connection (ISDN, GSM/GPRS) have been provided. In addition, many communications protocols have been implemented, such as Modbus RTU or TCP, IEC 870 – 5 – 101/103/104, TCP/IP – PPP, SMTP, http, FTP, DHCP, SNMP. The basic device also has one USB and one RS485 interface. An additional RS485/422 interface can be added as an option. Built into the SaiaPCD3 WAC are: a powerful web server, an FTP server, and a file system with industrial memory media up to 1 GByte.
Examples of fields of application for the SaiaPCD3 Wide Area Controllers include: the automation of networked machines/devices, district heating systems, drinking water supply, rain basins, water treatment, solar and wind energy stations, real estate data management.
