Touch control devices with a new sensory dimension

Until recently, touch panels in automation have only utilized the user’s hearing and eyesight as the human interface. With the new 5.7“ SaiaPCD Web-Panels, a third dimension has now been added: the process can be felt on the control device’s touch screen through tactile sensations in the fingers. To achieve this, the surface of the touch panel is moved with high frequency vibrations, which generate haptic feedback for the operator.
Saia-Burgess presented this technology to members of the public for the first time about one year ago, allowing them to experience it with working samples. Encouraged by significant interest and a positive response on the market, steps were taken to introduce this technology into series production for the SaiaPCD Web-Panel standard product range (3.5“ – 15“).
Now, at this year’s SPS/IPC/Drives Exhibition in Nuremberg, the first haptic HMI device for automation will be presented as a commercially available product with a brilliant 5.7“ VGA TFT screen. From 2010 it will be carried as a standard catalogue product by Saia-Burgess.
The range of screen sizes offered will then be continuously extended. At the Hanover Fair in spring 2010, a 12 inch device will be presented.
